What an impressive group of elected officials! I am truly impressed that informed and educated Middleboro town employees, their friends and relatives chose to return the incumbents to office! And each and every meeting only confirms their wisdom!
Gladys, once again you have outdone yourself! I am still wiping away my tears of laughter. This has to be the best episode of the Twilight Zone I have ever seen...too bad it isn't fiction!! The gavel at the end was the real kicker!
If your part of the "click" in town "Middleboro" you can get away with dealing drugs, burn houses down, drive around drunk terrorize neighbor hoods and the cops look the other way. If "THEY" cant deal with whats going on now how the hell will they deal with the added crap that will come with the casino. Enough is enough already.....
Case in point of screwy things in the twilite zone of Middleboro. In this Saturdays Enterprise Oct.6 theres a story of a small house fire with picture, YET not long ago there was another house fire on Barrows street in Middleboro that was likely arson and just .2 miles from the fire station that almost burnt the three family structure to the ground. "just two walls left standing" flames over 100 feet in the air and and damaging two other property's and the only thing there now is a blue tarp covering the foundation hole, When residents sent pictures to the Enterprise of it fully engulfed in flames the story NEVER even made it into the Enterprise. Theres many why's to this...
The Middleboro police can't even enforce the traffic laws in town, how will they handle the first casino related murder? Stand in the street and direct traffic around the body?
My name is Mary Tufts, and I live in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
In early 2007 I first heard about land right down the street in Middleboro being sold to build a casino, and knew the problems a casino would create weren't going to stop short at the town border.
Aside from voting, I'd never participated in government, so I didn't know what to expect when I went to Middleboro town hall to sit in on an informational meeting about the casino - but I didn't expect to hear an attorney, who claimed to be an expert in tribal law, telling everyone that it was all over. To give up and sign on the dotted line.
That didn't seem right to me. It didn't even seem American to me.
I heard a lot of pros and cons of expanded gambling that night, and over the next few years, but most of the things I learned scared me. Witnessing the process scared me more. So I guess I just decided to stop being scared, and start fighting.
I met a lot of fantastic (and not so fantastic) people along the way, and became part of grassroots movement to preserve quality of life, kick corporate influence out of politics, and rid government of it's gambling addiction.
Welcome to my adventures in activism.
